Chennai Super Kings probably had the most successful and star-studded retention ahead of IPL 2021. They filled in all 4 available spots with four of their best players namely Ravindra Jadeja, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali. They are sorted on many fronts already but there is a problem that they might face in the much awaited mega auction of IPL auction – lack of funds.
Chennai Super Kings (CSK): Ravindra Jadeja (16 crore), MS Dhoni (12 crore), Moeen Ali (8 crore), Ruturaj Gaikwad (6 crore)
Balance purse: Rs 48 crore
Chennai Super Kings have one the least remaining purse heading into the Mega auction which means that they will have to act very smartly. CSK have always had the habit of bidding for their old players in the mega auctions and thus it can be expected that this time too they will be looking forward to buying back some of their old stars. Let us have a look at some of the ex-players that CSK might look to buy in the Mega auction of IPL 2022.
- Faf Du Plessis – Faf Du Plessis was one of the key players who took CSK all the way to the finals of IPL 2021 and won them the title. He lost the Orange cap award last year to his teammate Ruturaj Gaikwad by just 3 runs and was phenomenal all throughout the season. It was sad that CSK could not find a way to retain their legend and they will definitely look to buy him back in the auction.

- Shardul Thakur – Shardul has improved himself a lot in the last few seasons and he turned himself into an absolute beast under the guidance of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. By the end of IPL 2021, he became quite an allrounder after brushing up his batting skills and we all know how good he is with the ball in hand.

- Deepak Chahar – Deepak Chahar has been the most important bowler in the CSK setup over the past few years and he is a player that CSK will definitely try to bring back. He is one of MS Dhoni’s favourites and he has always delivered for CSK in the death overs and power plays. Deepak Chahar picked up 14 wickets in 15 matches in IPL 2021.
