Royal Challengers Bangalore might have had the smartest IPL 2022 retention but they are also the team that needs to invest most wisely in the mega-auction because of two reasons. They will firstly have to look for a captain (if they do not plan to make Glen Maxwell the captain) and they will also have to look for a replacement of AB De Villiers which is next to impossible. The retirement of ABD has created a hives vacuum in RCB’s middle order which they will have to fill in with a big purchase in the auction.
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB): Virat Kohli (15 crore), Glenn Maxwell (11 crore), Mohammed Siraj (7 crore)
Balance purse: Rs. 57 crore
However, amid the financially smart decisions. Royal Challengers Bangalore lost some of the players who had been associated with the team for a very long time now. They are likely to go after some of these players in the mega-auction in the attempt to get them back. Let us take a look at who those players might be.
- Yuzvendra Chahal – The Netizens were shocked when RCB did not have Yuzvendra Chahal on their retention list as he has been an integral player of their team for a very long time. However it might have been a smart move from Yuzi Chahal as he wouldn’t want to be the third retention of RCB (and get a lower salary). RCB will thus definitely want to go for their veteran spinner in the mega auction.

- Kyle Jamieson – RCB made quite a hefty investment on Kyle Jamieson in last season’s auction and it worked out well too. The New Zealand pacer was phenomenal in the first half of the tournament but after the COVID-19 break, he did not return to play the remaining season due to personal reasons. RCB will surely want to get him back in the auction.

- Devdutt Padikkal – Devdutt Padikkal too has immense potential and his reasoning for not being retained was the same as Chahal – he did not want to be the 3rd retention and get a lower salary. He will thus head on to the IPL mega auction and see his worth. Royal Challengers Bangalore will surely be bidding for him too.
