The popular saying, “Age is just a number” is proved by a lot of prominent personalities from the cricket fraternity. They say love is blind and it has no boundaries when two people decide to spend their entire life with each other.
It doesn’t matter what the age difference between the two is when it comes to love. Several cricketers have proven it that the age gap between them whether elder or younger doesn’t affect their relationship.
Let’s have a look at some of the popular couples from the world of cricket who have proved it time and again that age gap doesn’t come in between their relationship.
1) Sachin Tendulkar and Anjali Mehta
Sachin Tendulkar is no doubt one of the best cricketers in the history of the game. The Master Blaster’s records are known to everyone however, the 48-year-old is secretive when it comes to his personal life.
The Master Blaster met Anjali when he was just 17 years old. In 1990, Sachin was returning from England after scoring his maiden century for Team India. The two met each other in Mumbai Airport. Anjali was present at the airport to pick up her mother. The two had an instant connection and later Anjali got his number through a common friend.
The two started seeing each other and shared a long-distance relationship. They later got married in 1995. Anjali is six years older than Sachin. But age never came in between their relationship.
2) Glenn McGrath and Sara Leonardi
McGarth who was earlier married to Jane died in 2008. His first wife battled with breast cancer for a long time. The Australian pacer then decided to not fall in love with anyone else.
But later during the 2009 edition of IPL, he met Sara Leonardi in a party in Cape Town in April. The two got married in November 2010 after dating for seven months.
Sara is 12 years younger than Glenn McGarth. Sara also helped McGarth to get back to normal life after the death of his first wife.
3) Wasim Akram and Shaneira Thompson
The former Pakistani pacer was one of the greatest fast bowlers to have ever played the game. The left arm pacer was first married to Huma Mufti in 1995. Huma died in 2009 due to multiple organ failures. The couple were together for almost 15 years.
In 2013 Akram met Shaneira Thompson during his visit to Melbourne to participate in a local poker tournament at Crown Casino. The duo got engaged in the same year. Akram married her later that year somewhere in Lahore.
Shaneira Thompson is 17 years younger than the left arm pacer.
4) Shoaib Akhtar and Rubab Khan
Shoaib Akhtar was a fierce fast bowler in his days and was known for continuously bowling at 100mph. Shoaib was a nightmare to many batsmen in those times.
Shoaib married Rubab Khan in 2014 in a private ceremony which was attended by close friends and family. Shoaib met Rubab’s father while performing Hajj in Saudi Arabia in 2013. Shoaib asked Rubab’s father to find a girl for him. Rubab’s father offered his daughter’s hand to the Pakistani speedster.
At the time of marriage Shoaib was 42 years old while Rubab was just 23. Despite being 18 years younger, Rubab agreed to marry Shoaib.
5) Dinesh Karthik and Deepika Pallikal
Deepika Pallikal was an Indian squash player who hated cricketers as she believed that the kind of hype and fame that they get dwarfs other sportspersons. The two met each other when they were taking fitness sessions under coach Basu. After meeting him for a couple of occasions, Deepika’s misconceptions about cricketers went away.
The two did not made their relationship public until 15 November 2013 when the two got engaged in Chennai. However, Deepika was spotted in a number of occasions in the IPL cheering for Kathik. The two got married in 2015.
Though Deepika is six years younger than Karthik, the age dap never seemed to come in between their relationship.
