5 Overseas players who can replace ABD at RCB

Former Proteas batsmen AB De Villiers on Friday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. In 2018, the latter decided to retire from international cricket. Since then, the 37-year-old has only been focusing on league-based competitions.

AB De Villiers has been a sensational player for RCB so far. He has scored 5162 runs in 184 matches for the franchise. The franchise would have looked to retain him for the 2022 edition of IPL. It is impossible to replace a player of his class. But here we will have a look at 5 foreign players who can replace AB De Villiers next season.

1) Jos Buttler

England’s wicket-keeper batsmen Jos Buttler is the one who can replace ABD in RCB. Buttler has been a sensational opener but he can also fire down the middle-order. He has often shown his skills while batting lower down the order for England. Buttler is a versatile batsman and can play the role of an opener and also a finisher.

2) Mitchell Marsh

Royal Challengers Bangalore can look upon Mitch Marsh to replace the prolific batsmen. Mitchell Marsh had a great season for Australia in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Marsh has been one of the main reasons for Australia’s success in the marquee event. Although, Mitch Marsh doesn’t have a great IPL record but his recent form can get him a place in the team.

Mitchell Marsh is also a right arm medium pacer. This year Marsh has currently scored 627 runs in 21 matches at an average of 36.88 and has been a leading scorer for his country. With the leather he has also picked up 8 wickets, at an average of 18.38.

3) Aiden Markram

The South African has been in great form in T20Is so far this year. Markram can bat in the middle order at No. 3 or No. 4 which was ABD’s desired position in the team. He has shown his class in the recently concluded ICC tournament and also playing for KXIP. In 20 T20Is, Markram has scored 588 runs at a strike-rate of about 147 with 6 fifties. He is also a part time off spinner.

4) Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips is a wicket-keeper batsmen and is similar to ABD. He is born in East London, South Africa but plays for New Zealand. Phillips has played three matches in the IPL for RR. He replaced Jos Buttler in the 2nd leg of the 2021 edition of IPL. While playing for his country he has scored 611 runs, at an average of 26.56 and at a strike rate of 140.45. Phillips regularly plays in the CPL and the Hundred and also has a good reputation of being a six hitter.

5) Liam Livingstone

The 28-year-old English cricketer truly resembles ABD. He is a power hitter and has a lot of experience while playing for PSL and the Hundred. In 14 T20Is for England so far and has amassed 252 runs at an astonishing strike-rate of 165.78. He is also a part time off and leg spinner.
