Aaron Finch hints at retiring from Test cricket very soon

Aaron Finch

Aaron Finch might be one of the most clinical batters in the limited formats but when it comes to Test cricket, he has had a hard-luck from the very beginning of his career. Although Aaron Finch is 35 years old now and is one of the senior-most players in the Australian squad, he has played in only 5 International Test matches in his nation.

Aaron Finch made his captaincy debut in 2018 and played his last test in that very year against India which was the Boxing day test. In those 5 matches in his Test career, Aaron Finch scored 278 runs at an average of 27.80. His highest score was just 62.

Finch is not a part of Australia’s squad in the ongoing Test series between the Aussies and Pakistan as well. Although he is the T20I captain of Australia, he has not gotten a chance in the longest format of the game for the last four years. The main reason for this is the huge competition in the Australian team.

Amid such circumstances, the Australian T20I captain has teased that he can retire from Test cricket altogether very soon. In fact, he indirectly teased that very point as he made it very sure that he did not want to play another test match in his career as he wanted to give chance to the younger generation.

“I don’t think I’ll play again. There’s no point, I’m not going to play Test cricket again so the younger guys in our squad, there’s some really talented players, so there’s no point me taking up one of those spots when they can be getting really valuable game time.”
