Delhi Capitals is one of the eight original teams in the IPL. The franchise begun with the name of Delhi Daredevils in the inaugural season of the tournament before changing it to Delhi Capitals in 2018. Delhi Capitals has failed to win a title in 14 seasons of the tournament.
But in the last three years, Delhi Capitals have shown some consistent performances. In 2019 they finished third while in 2020 they reached to the finals of the tournament.
The franchise plays its home matches in Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium.
Delhi Capitals is co-owned by GMR Group and JSW Group. In 2008, GMR Group bought the franchise US$84 million. However, in March 2018 GMR Group sold its 50% stake to JSW Group for INR 550 crores. The deal between the two companies involves a swap of leading the team management after every two years starting 2019 edition of the tournament.
In 2019 and 2020, the team is managed by Chairman Parth Jindal who is the managing director of JSW Group.
However, for the next two seasons, Kiran Kumar Grandhi of GMR Group will lead the franchise.
The brand value of the franchise has seen a significant growth in the last two years. According to a report in Duff and Phelps, Delhi Capitals suffered the least dip (about 1%) in their brand value among all IPL teams after being hit by the Covi-19 pandemic in 2020. In 2019 their brand value was estimated to be around INR 374 crore. In 2020, it dropped to INR 370 crore.
The franchise had the record breaking deals in sponsorships deals in 2021. In 2021 edition of IPL, DC secured the highest-ever sponsorship with a total of 25 sponsors for the franchise in the season.
