Royal Challengers Bangalore registered an emphatic win against Mumbai Indians today at Maharashtra’s MCA Stadium as they met in the 18th Match of IPL 2022 and thus climbed their way all the way to the 3rd position on the Points table and are now real contenders to qualify for the playoffs this season. They have the same number of points as table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders and second positioned Gujarat Titans. However, this is also a worrying sign for Mumbai Indians as they have now lost all 4 of their games in the IPL 2022 and are placed at the 9th position of the points table. It is now next to impossible for them to qualify for the playoffs and they will have to do something completely out of the box to qualify for the playoffs.
Coming on to the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore opted to bowl first having won the toss and they got a pretty decent start. Thanks to great performances by their bowlers Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga who picked up 2 wickets each, they were able to restrict Mumbai Indians to a low total of only 151 runs. However, the total could have been a lot lesser had the Umpire budged to the call of Harshal Patel for Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket wherein the Mumbai batsman got saved by just a whisker.
Coming on to chase, Faf du Plessis departed early in the match but the partnership of Virat Kohli and Anuj Rawat made sure that RCB win the match comfortably. However, former RCB captain Virat Kohli lost his wicket in a pretty unfortunate fashion and he missed his half-century by just 2 runs. Youngster Dewald Brevis got his wicket on his very first ball of the Indian Premier League and Kohli took the review but in vain. He was visibly very frustrated and angry upon losing his wicket.
Dewald Brevis dismisses Virat Kohli on his very first ball – Kohli got very angry on the Umpire’s decision!
