India is currently playing the second test match of their two-match series against Sri Lanka. The second test is being played at the M. Chinnaswami stadium and it is a Pink Ball test which started at 2 pm today. Although India completely dominated their opponents in the first match of the series at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, the hosts did not get a nice start in the first innings of the second match and they will need a miracle to reach a 300+ score from here.
The Blues received a horrible start to their innings as both openers Mayank Agarwal and Rohit Sharma departed for very low runs – 4 and 15 respectively. Although the middle order batters – Hanuma Vihari and Virat Kohli were able to control the innings for a while, they too departed without taking India’s target to a respectable position.
However, the pitch is favouring the spinners a lot in the first test as it is a tricky surface. The delivery that got Virat Kohli out proves this very point.
The former Indian captain totally misread Dhananjaya de Silva’s delivery as it did not rise as much as Kohli had expected and it received an insane turn. Kohli was LBW and he could not believe his eyes.
The commentator described the dismissal perfectly: “Ohh there is nothing you can do about that. There is nothing you can do about that. Virat Kohli can look down on the surface as much as he likes. The surface has got him as much as the spinner has.”
India has currently lost six wickets and has scored 167 runs and the second session is being played. Shreyas Iyer and Ravichandran Ashwin are currently on strike and they will have to do something miraculous to take India’s score to a big total from here.
