During Sunday’s high voltage clash between India and Pakistan, Indian fans started cheering ‘Jija ji’ when Shoaib Malik was fielding near the boundary ropes.
Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik holds a special place in the heart of the Indian fans. The reason primarily being his wife, Sania Mirza who is an Indian tennis player. The star couple have been the talk of the hour whenever India meets Pakistan in an ICC event. The two got married way back in 2008.
After a long wait of 28 months, India locked horns with Pakistan which turned out to be their opening fixture in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup at Abu Dhabi. Owing to political reasons, both the countries do not face each other in bilateral series. They only face each other in Asia Cup and ICC hosted events.
The much-hyped match was played at the Dubai International Stadium in Abu Dhabi in front of packed crowds. Many dignitaries were also spotted enjoying the match in the stadium.
Winning the toss, Pakistan skipper Babar Azam put India to bat first.

While the Pakistan were fielding, a section of the crowd was elated to see Shoaib Malik fielding near the boundary ropes. A group of fans suddenly started calling Malik as ‘Jija ji’ as the camera zoomed in towards Malik. Shoaib Malik turned around to see the crowd behind him.
Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik’s wife Sania Mirza shared the shared the video on twitter with smileys as the caption of the tweet.
The 151 run unbeaten partnership between Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam won the match for Pakistan comprehensively by 10 wickets. Pakistan won their maiden World Cup match in 29 years and rewrote history.
India are the favorites to win the ICC T20 World Cup much like they did in the inaugural season of the tournament. India will take on New Zealand on October 31.
