Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has urged Team India to win at Johannesburg for the 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev.

The legendary World Cup Winning skipper Kapil Dev turned 63 on Thursday.

Day 4 is likely to be the final day of the test as both are teams are close to victory. The Proteas need 122 runs to win the Johannesburg test while the visitors require another 8 wickets to seal the deal. South Africa’s skipper Dean Elgar is batting at 46 off 121 deliveries while Van Der Dussen is batting at 11 at stumps on Day 3. Shardul Thakur picked up the wicket of Aiden Markram while Ravichandran Ashwin sent Keegan Peterson packing to the pavilion.

If Team India manage to pick up a victory here, they will take a 2-0 lead in the series and will be the first Indian team to win a test at South Africa.

Team India won comprehensively at Centurion as they registered a 113-run win against the home side.

Team India have never won a test series at South Africa.

“India have never won a series here. In fact, India have won very few Test matches here. The last time India came here in 2018, they won the one-day series but they lost the Test series 2-1. So, this is going to be huge for India,” Sunil Gavaskar said during the lunch interval of Day 3 on SuperSport.

Batting legend Sunil Gavaskar feels that KL Rahul and co can gift the ‘greatest cricketer’ Kapil Dev with a win at Johannesburg.

“And the way I look at it is, I mean, weather permitting… tomorrow happens to be the birthday in my view of India’s greatest cricketer – Kapil Dev. So, I think it will be wonderful gift for Kapil from this Indian team. There are many admirers of Kapil Dev in this team. So, from this team to Kapil Dev, that will be a fantastic present,” he added.

Recently a movie directed by Kabir Khan starring Ranveer Singh was released on Team India’s World Cup Winning moment in 1983. The movie was named as ’83’ and it received a lot of love from fans all across the globe.
