The entire world started mourning last night when we got the news of Australian cricket legend Shane Warne’s death. He died of a heart attack in his Thailand Villa where he had gone to spend a vacation with his wife at the young age of 52.
While all the other cricketers and fans were busy mourning the legend’s death, Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar opined that Shane Warne’s indisciplined lifestyle might have been the cause of his death.
Commenting on Shane Warne’s death, Gavaskar said, “He was looking to live life king-size. Maybe, because he lived life in such a manner, is perhaps why his heart couldn’t take it and he died so soon.”
On being asked whether he thought Shane Warne was the greatest spinner of all time, Gavaskar denied that straightaway saying that even the Indian spinners and Muralitharan had a better record than him.
“No, I wouldn’t say that no. For me the Indian spinners and Muttiah Muralitharan were better than Shane Warne,” Gavaskar said in an interview with India Today.
He further continued, “He had a pretty ordinary record against India and took a five-for once. I wouldn’t call him the greatest as he failed in India. Muttiah Muralitharan was impressive against the Indians and for me, he was far better than Warne.”
Various cricket fans are furious at Sunil Gavaskar’s harsh words just after the death of a cricket legend. Yes, it is true that Shane Warne lived his life in a different way but saying all these things a day after a person died was probably not the right thing to do.
Sunil Gavaskar has been subject to a lot of criticism due to his comments but he has not made any further additions to his statement yet.
