Gujarat Titans replace Jason Roy with Star Afghanistan batsman

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Gujarat Titans bought Jason Roy in the Mega Auction IPL 2022 for a base price of 2 Crores and at first, it seemed like they had found their opener. Jason Roy was a part of the franchise Gujarat Lions that played in the Indian Premier League for 2 years but after that, he was ignored by almost all the franchises in the upcoming seasons. However, last season he played brilliantly at Sunrisers Hyderabad as the replacement of David Warner and that is why he was bought by Gujarat Titans this season.

However, the English opener has himself decided not to take part in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League due to the boring bio bubble rules. We have seen players like Steve Smith in the past who thought that their salary was too less for them to waste 2 boring months away from their homes. Jason Roy followed the same theory and thus decided not to play this season. This theoretically ends his career in the Indian Premier League as no other team would like to buy him in the future.

However, Gujarat Titans have a big problem now as they would have to find a replacement for Jason Roy. Jason Roy is a brilliant opener and they would have to find a player equally strong as him. It now seems like they have got his perfect replacement now and it is none other than Afghanistan batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is a wicketkeeper and he plays as an opener for Afghanistan in limited formats.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz is just 20 years old and is one of the rising stars of Afghanistan cricket. He has scored 428 runs in 9 wickets in ODI format and 534 runs in 20 Matches in T20I. His average in T20I is 26.7 while that in ODI is a staggering 53.5. He might prove to be a great addition to the Gujarat Titans team and will definitely find a spot in their playing XI.
