The cyber cell of Mumbai Police has identified the man giving rape threats to Vamika Kohli after India’s defeat to arch-rivals Pakistan in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup in UAE. The accused is a 23-year-old IIT graduate named Ramnagesh Srinivas Akubathini who is currently unemployed. He has worked for a food delivery app earlier. It is reported that the man is being brought to Mumbai by a special team.

It all started when Team India lost to Pakistan in their opening encounter of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Indian pacer Mohammad Shami was subject to heavy trolls following the 10-wicket loss. Shami was attacked over his religion and his faith for the country was also questioned.  However, skipper Virat Kohli came out in support of the pacer in the press conference.

“Attacking someone over their religion is the most pathetic thing one can do as a human. That is a very sacred and personal thing. People take out their frustration because they have no understanding of what we do,” Kohli told reporters before a match.

“We’re playing on the field, we’re not a bunch of spineless people on social media. This has become a source of entertainment for some people which is very sad. All this drama created on the outside is based on people’s frustrations. We stand by him 200 per cent. Our brotherhood in the team cannot be shaken,” Kohli had said.

The screenshots of the rape threat circulated on social media platforms. However, a twitter account @Criccrazyygirl which is now deleted issued rape threats to Virat Kohli’s wife and his nine-month-old daughter. The account was earlier named as @ramanheist.

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) asked for an investigation to Mumbai Police and asked to file an FIR. INC leader Rahul Gandhi also came out in support of the skipper.

“It has been reported that online threats are given to rape the 9-month-old girl child of Virat Kohli since the team’s defeat in the recent India-Pakistan match. It is learnt that he is being also attacked since he spoke against the incessant trolling of his teammate Mohammad Shami who was targeted for his religion by online trolls,” Maliwal wrote in her notice.
