“If Virat Kohli doesn’t perform, he will lose his spot in the team”: Monty Panesar makes explosive statement ahead of South Africa series

Virat Kohli’s form in the past couple of years has not been upto the mark. He has gotten way too many chances to rectify his mistakes and to be back in form but he has failed every time. Till 2021, he was the Indian captain in all the three formats of the game and was thus getting away with his flaws.

However, now that Virat has lost the captains of T20 and ODI, there is immense pressure on him as his spot in the team is not fixed. England International Monty Panesar in his latest interview said that the Indian test captain might have to be dropped if he doesn’t pull something off in the South Africa Series.

“I think he will be very motivated because he knows that if he does not score a lot of runs in Test cricket then that position could be up for grabs as well. So, he is under pressure to perform but he needs to do well and actually get some wins and even India are winning and he does not score the runs that still is a positive for Virat Kohli because he knows how to get the best out of an individual,” Panesar said as quoted by Hindustan Times.

However, Monty Panesar also thinks that India will win the series against South Africa with flying colours despite Virat Kohli’s performances. There’s no denying that the blues are one of the strongest sides in world cricket and they are expected to dominate in the test series despite having a not so great record in South Africa.

Monty Panesar opined, “I think India has got a great chance. They seem like favorites to win that series. They know how to win now away from India and that is to do with Ravi Shastri’s coaching philosophy. He really instilled that belief, the motivation to say guys any situation we are going to fight and if you are in a dominant position then we are going to keep our foot on the throat.”

“So, I think it is still there within this Indian team and this will be historic for Indian cricket for them to win their first series in South Africa and this is their best chance. They have got a stronger team. Their team is much stronger than the South Africans. I think India are firm favorites to win the series,” he concluded.
