IPL 2022 Retentions: KKR unlikely to retain Shubman Gill

All the eight IPL franchise will have to submit their retention list by 30 November 30, 2021.

With the deadline reaching its final day, the franchises are preparing their player list whom they would like to retain ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auctions. 8 existing teams can retain a maximum of three players (capped or uncapped). They can retain a maximum of two overseas players. The two new franchises will be allowed to pick the players after the retention period gets over.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Kolkata Knight Riders are unlikely to retain Shubman Gill. It is also reported that Sunrisers Hyderabad will release Afghanistan sensation Rashid Khan.

Venkatesh Iyer is likely to be retained by his side. Iyer made a mark in the second leg of the 2021 edition of IPL. He was the main reason behind KKR’s late success in the season. He amassed 370 runs and picked up three wickets.

Iyer also debuted for India in the T20I series against New Zealand.

Kolkata Knight Riders are planning to retain Sunil Narine and Andre Russell as their two overseas options. They are likely to retain Varun Chakravarthy and Venkatesh Iyer.

It was earlier reported that KKR will retain either of Venkatesh Iyer or Shubman Gill. But it is now becoming clear that the Kolkata based franchise has made up his mind on the new sensation. Iyer who had a stellar season with KKR can also bowl medium pace. It was expected that the 26-year-old will be picked up by a huge price in the auctions but it is now becoming clear that KKR will retain him.
