IPL 2022

The 15th edition of IPL is finally returning to its home and this time it’s not just with eight sides. Two additional sides will be taking part in the tournament. The 2021 edition of IPL was sadly not held in India due to the constant threat of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

The BCCI on Wednesday has informed all its stakeholders that the 2022 edition of IPL is likely to begin from April 02 in Chennai. The fixtures have not been finalized yet but the date and the venue will certainly be this. Chennai will get the hosting rights since they are the reigning champions.

However, no decision has been taken on the opponents for the inaugural match of the season.

Soon after CSK lifted the title for the fourth time, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that the 15th edition of the tournament will be returning to its home.

“I know you all are waiting to see the CSK play at Chepauk. Well, the moment is not very far. The 15th season of the IPL will take place in India and it will be more exciting than ever with two new teams joining. We have a mega auction coming up, so it will be interesting to see what the new combinations look like,” the BCCI secretary said earlier.

The addition of two new teams certainly means that the number of matches will increase. A total of 74 games will be played with the final probably being played in the first week of June. The length of the season is believed to be for more than 60 days. Each team will play 14 games i.e., seven home and seven away games.

If reports are to be believe then the mega auction for the 2022 edition of IPL is scheduled to take place in the 2nd week of December 2021. The addition of two new teams brings a lot of changes in the retention policy.
