Former England cricket legend Kevin Pietersen was asked to make some tough calls recently regarding the best players of T20I cricket. He picked his Greatest Death bowler, Six-hitter and the greatest T20I spin bowlers of all times and we have to say that his selections were simply spot on.
Kevin Pietersen currently works as a commentator and cricket analyst for Sky Sports but he often gives his views on the Sport in some other forums as well and that is what he did recently when he was asked to pick the best players in these three separate criteria.
First, he talked about the best six-hitter in T20I cricket according to him. The England legend kept Chris Gayle ahead of everyone else in this aspect. The West Indies big-hitter has been an absolute legend in the shortest format of the game and he might very well be considered as the face of T20 cricket. The brute force that Chris Gayle had during his prime is unbelievable and now that he has retired from international cricket, he might finally be put into T20I cricket’s hall of fame.
Talking about the death over bowlers, Kevin Pietersen picked Lasith Malinga. Till date, Lasith Malinga has the highest number of wickets in the IPL and he is third on the T20I highest wickets list – and that’s considering the fact that he retired almost 3 years ago. Malinga is undoubtedly the best death over bowler of all time and he will remain a legend forever.
Talking about the best spin bowler in T20I on the other hand, Kevin Pietersen picked Sunil Narine. “His pick-up over mid-on, just the flat-bat smack, it’s so dismissive.Sunil Narine because of his variations.I had no idea which way it was going. And Malinga was as good as it gets when it comes to death bowling,” he said.
