KL Rahul likely to lead Team India in the T20I series against NZ!

KL Rahul is likely to lead Team India in the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand.

The Men in Blue are currently playing in the ICC T20 World Cup in UAE. After losing the first two matches for the first time since 1999, team India’s chances of making it to the knockout stages is very slim. Even winning the remaining 3 matches does not guarantee a place in top 2 of the Group.

Senior Indian player like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah are playing continuously since the World Test Championship Final against NZ. Therefore, many players are likely to be rested for the upcoming series which will be held later this month after the conclusion of the ongoing tournament.

Virat Kohli has also made up his mind of giving up the captaincy of the India’s T20 squad after the ongoing ICC tournament.

Therefore, if reports are to be believed Indian selectors are planning to hold a meeting to decide team India’s new T20I skipper. Opener Rohit Sharma is likely to be the front-runner for that position.

According to ANI, KL Rahul will lead Team India as Rohit Sharma might get rested for the series.

“The seniors would need a breather and it is no secret that Rahul is an integral part of the team’s T20 structure. He is almost certain to lead,” a BCCI official was quoted as saying by ANI.

The Indian Cricket Board is also planning to bring back fans into the stadium, although not in full capacity following the Covid-19 guidelines.

“Yes, we will have fans coming in, but it won’t be full capacity. We will work closely with the local authorities and plan the way forward,” a BCCI official said.

The 1st T20I match between IND and NZ will be played on November 17 in Jaipur.
