We got to know a few days ago that English bowler Mark Wood has been ruled out of IPL 2022 after he picked up an injury during the ongoing test series between England and West Indies. This is a big blow to Lucknow Super Giants who had bought Mark Wood for a whopping price of 7.5 Crores. In fact, he was one of their costliest foreign bowlers. However, it is now confirmed that he will be missing the season and thus Lucknow will have to look for a replacement for the Englishman.
Rumour has it that Lucknow Super Giants have already found their replacement for Mark Wood. According to reports, Lucknow Super Giants are set to sign Bangladeshi fast bowler Taskin Ahmed, who is considered to be one of their best pacers across all the formats, as the Englishman’s replacement.
Taskin Ahmed has not played in a single IPL match before and this would be his first-ever season in India’s big money league. With Shakib Al Hasan going unsold in IPL 2022 Mega Auction, this would also mean that Taskin Ahmed will be the second Bangladeshi to play in the Indian Premier League this season alongside Mustafizur Rahman.
Taskin Ahmed has played 33 T20I matches for Bangladesh and he has picked up 23 wickets. His record in ODI cricket is much better. There, he has picked up 77 wickets in 44 matches which is a great statistic.
Given the fact that Mark Wood was going to be a regular starter in Lucknow Super Giants’ team, one would think that Taskin Ahmed will be getting a place in their playing XI. It will be interesting to see how the player copes up with the Indian Premier League.
