Md Kaif raises a big question for Indian Selectors regarding the SA series squad

The India vs South Africa series begins in India from 8th June with the first T-20 being played at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. India ended up in the losing side though registering quite a massive total on the board. Indian bowlers failed to defend the total of 210 in 20 overs. In-form batsman David Miller played a wonderful innings to take the team to victory.

Though the hosts picked a well-balanced squad of 18-member ahead of the much-anticipated series. The Rishabh Pant-led line-up does not feature some of the big names due to workload management policy and injury concerns.

But former Indian cricketer and cricket expert Mohammad Kaif seems not to be impressed with the selection of the players. Kaif mainly questions the role of three leg spinners in the team. The former right handed batsman also backed Ravichandran Ashwin to make it in the squad as the spinner might add up a lot of variations in the bowling.

Ashwin who was dropped from the national side after the T20 world cup with his up and down performance was seen to be in a very good rhythm in this year’s IPL. Ravi Ashwin has been one of the biggest assets behind the success of Rajasthan Royals.

“In the Indian team, there is Chahal, Bishnoi, Axar. Where will you play the three leg-spinners? If you see the squad’s balance, how can you play three leg-spinners in the team? I was somewhat disappointed to not see the name of R Ashwin. He was part of the team in the 2021 T20 World Cup and his current form is brilliant,” Kaif said.

“In place of three leg-spinners, if you would have omitted one among then and played Ashwin instead, there would have been variation. The captain then has that option. He is bowling and batting really well.” he added.
