Michael Vaughan picks his Top 5 players of IPL 2021 – Star players miss out

Michael Vaughan is pretty well known in the cricket universe for his controversial takes on the sport and his sharp digs at certain players and teams, especially team India and its players. He is very active on the social media platforms, especially twitter and often indluges in controversial debates with India’s very own cricket meme king, Wasim Jaffer.

The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League, i.e, IPL 2021, concluded just two days ago and MS Dhoni’s side Chennai Super Kings ended up winning their 4th IPL title by defeating Kolkata Knight Riders in the finals pretty convincingly.

Michael Vaughan has now opened up on the recently concluded tournament as he went on to pick his top 5 players from the tournament this season, based on their performances.

He kept Punjab Kings skipper KL Rahul at the top of his list. He might not have led his team to the playoffs but at the individual level, he was simply phenomenal.

At no.2 on the list, Michael Vaughan has kept Shikhar Dhawan. The left-handed batsman was particularly very good in the first leg of the tournament. He might not have been so influential in the UAE leg but nevertheless, was one of the highest scorers of the Indian Premier League.

Two CSK players, namely Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad have been kept at numbers 3 and 4 respectively. They are also the two top scorers of not only CSK but the entire competition. Ruturaj won the orange cap and Faf Du Plessis missed the award by just 3 runs.

At no.5. Michael Vaughan has kept Glenn Maxwell. The aussie allrounder played exceptionally well this season and marked his comeback in T20 cricket.

So Michael Vaughan’s picks are as follows:

  • KL Rahul
  • Shikhar Dhawan
  • Faf Du Plessis
  • Ruturaj Gaikwad
  • Glenn Maxwell
