New Zealand have pulled off a sensational comeback victory against England in the semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup and with this, they have successfully completed the revenge of their defeat against England in the 2019 ODI World Cup.
After India got knocked out in the group stages, England were the favourites to win the Tournament and it seemed so at the start of this match too. But as it seems, this year is not for the favourites and now England too have been knocked out in the semis.
Everything was alright until the 17th over where everything changed. New Zealand were 110/4 after 16 overs and England were in a comfortable position to seal the match off. But then came the heroics of Jimmy Neesham in the 17th over against Chris Jordan.
The all-rounder hit 23 runs in that over and completely dismantled Jordan who is quite well renowned as a death over specialist. From there, New Zealand started gaining confidence and England started losing it.
Even Daryl Mitchell, who was quite calm until then, got inspired by James Neesham and ran riot on the English bowlers. So much so, that despite Jimmy Neesham’s dismissal ahead of the 19th over, New Zealand went on to win the match in that over itself. Daryl Mitchell scored a phenomenal 72* off 47. New Zealand scored 57 runs in the last 4 overs.
With this, New Zealand have now become the first team to qualify for the Final of the 2021 T20 World Cup and they will face the winner of the match between Australia and Pakistan.
