Rahul Dravid is set to become the head coach of the Indian National cricket team at some point in near future. We all know him and so does he. He is one of the most beloved ex-cricketers in the nation and his contribution to developing the young talents of India is immense. He has given us talents like Shubman Gill and Prithvi Shaw before and now it’s time for him to nourish those players in the main team and apply his strategies at the biggest stage of them all.
But unfortunately, both he and the Indian selectors think that he is not ready yet. He has himself not shown any interest to take over the duties of Ravi Shastri as Team India’s head coach after his imminent retirement as of now and he wants to take his time. It is also the opinion of the selectors that Dravid better sharpen his coaching skills before taking over the duties of the national team.
Him being made the coach of the Indian squad that took on Sri Lanka in the T20 and ODI series was a part of this idea and he faired decently well. Had it not been for the COVID-19 crisis in the Indian camp, the men in blue would have had a clean sweep in both the series. Unfortunately that was not to be. But Dravid’s coaching brilliance was pretty brilliantly protrayed in the series.
It has now been announced that Rahul Dravid will be made India’s coach for the upcoming series against New Zealand as well, which is set to commence shortly after the T20 World Cup ends.
The news comes as a relief for the Indian fans who were wondering ‘what next’ for the ex-cricketer turned coach and will be looking forward to see him coach the main team one more time.
