Rajasthan Royals is one of the eight original franchise founded in the year 2008. Under the leadership of Shane Warner, the RR won the inaugural season of the tournament by defeating CSK in the finals.

In 2008, the franchise was bought by Emerging Media IPL for $67 million, making it the least expensive team in the league. Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty along with husband Raj Kundra bought 11.7% stake in the franchise. However, in 2015 Raj Kundra was banned for life after being involved in a match fixing scandal of 2013.

The franchise is currently co-owned by Shane Warne, Amisha Hathiramani, Manoj Badale and Lachlan Murdoch. Amisha Hathiramani’s Tresco International Ltd has 44.2% stake in the franchise. Her father Suresh Chellaram who used to have the stake before transferred it to her daughter in 2015. Businessman Manoj Badale holds 32.4% stake in the franchise. Australian-British-American businessman Lachlan Murdoch is one of the co-owners of the franchise. His company Blue Water Estate Ltd holds has 11.7% stakes in the franchise.

Former Australian spinner Shane Warne who has represented Rajasthan Royals in the initial seasons has 3% stakes in the franchise.

According to Sports.info, the brand value of Rajasthan Royals is estimate to be around INR 327 crore as of December 2019. Their brand value saw a significant dip due to the two year suspension.
