Ravi Shastri names two young players who can lead Team India in the future

Just two weeks ago the BCCI named Rohit Sharma as India’s new ODI captain. Despite all the controversy regarding that decision, it has been made and can not be changed now. As it stands, Rohit Sharma is now India’s captain in ODI and T20I while Virat Kohli remains the captain of the Indian test team.

None of the two players are long time options though. Virat Kohli has already enjoyed a long term as the Indian captain and unfortunately Rohit Sharma will not have the time to do so. Virat Kohli is 33 years old and Rohit Sharma is 34 years old. An average cricketing great plays upto the age of 36 and keeping that in mind, none of them have much time left to enjoy their position.

Keeping that in mind, it’s better if India starts thinking of the future options as in the players who can replace Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli as the future captains of Team India. In a recent interview, former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri said that he has seemingly found out the perfect suitors who can lead India in the future.

Ravi Shastri thinks that KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer are both more than capable to be named as the successors of Kohli and Rohit as the future captains of India. Both the players have experience in captaincy having been the captain of their respective IPL franchises (KL for Punjab Kings and Shreyas Iyer for Delhi Capitals). KL Rahul is even the vice captain of India in T20 and ODI.

Ravi Shastri said, “Rahul Dravid knows his job. All I want to say to him is enjoy. KL Rahul is there, Shreyas Iyer has good leading qualities in the future especially in white-ball cricket.”
