As we all know, all the ten teams of IPL 2022 are done forming their squads. The franchises have now focused on buying replacement players, backup players and also net bowlers. Gujarat Titans made headlines after signing Mohit Sharma as their net bowler. Chennai Super Kings, on the other hand, had already signed Scotland’s young talent Josh Little as their net bowler. Now, it is Royal Challengers Bangalore’s turn and they have signed a great net bowler as well.
RCB have signed young Afghan bowler Izharulhaq Naveed as their net bowler. Both RCB and the player himself has confirmed the news that he is joining the RCB contingent this season. Izharulhaq Naveed is just 18 years old and he was also a part of Afghanistan’s U-19 team that was recently featured in the 2022 U-19 World Cup which was held in the West Indies and India won it.
Izharulhaq Naveed gave a brilliant performance in the 2022 U-19 World Cup and he was one of Afghanistan’s best bowlers. One of the good things about him is that he maintains a very low economy which is very important in a format like T20. Bowlers who maintain a low economy usually maintain a good record in the Indian Premier League. A good example of this is Varun Chakravarthy.
However, Izharulhaq Naveed will not feature in any match as such as he is just the net bowler. However, by facing his spin deliveries, Glen Maxwell, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis (RCB batting unit) can practice very well for even the best spinners in the league like Rashid Khan. This will give a great advantage to the RCB batting unit.
It does not mean that Izharulhaq Naveed does not have any chance at all to impress the RCB management. In fact, if performs well in the nets, he can also be scouted by RCB and he can get a permanent contract even as a main team player for the upcoming seasons.
