It was already decided earlier, that, If Delhi Capitals won this match against Mumbai Indians, they will continue their journey into the playoffs, but if they lose, RCB will enter the playoffs.
But, Fielding, bowling and captaincy errors cost Delhi Capitals their chance of making the playoffs as Mumbai Indians ended up winning their last match at the Wankhede Stadium.
The win ensured that Delhi is out of the race to the playoffs and hence RCB have managed to seal their seat in the 4th spot in IPL 2022.
MI’s Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Delhi to bat first. Delhi didn’t get the Start, they were desired to get in an important match like this. Lost their openers in a very early stage. Rovman Powell and Rishabh Pant made a very crucial partnership, but Mumbai’s bowlers did a phenomenal job as they restricted delhi in 159/7.
MI also lost their biggest batsman And captain Rohit Sharma, very early.
After that, Kishan made 48, Brevis was dismissed for 37 off 33 balls.
But MI’s Tim Devid played a remarkable knock. David scored 34 off just 11 deliveries. Varma, on the other hand, scored 21 as MI crossed the target in 19.1 overs, and won the match.
Rishab pant shared his thoughts in the after match interview and said,”We were 5-7 runs short but we bowled really well. We bowled well throughout the tournament, but dew came in towards the end and we didn’t bowl to our plans. It’s hard but we got to take it on our chin and learn from it. I thought there was something (about not reviewing Tim David caught behind). Everyone standing in the circle wasn’t convinced and at the end didn’t go up. We were discussing (with Porting) that we will tell bowlers to keep it simple. Just keep doing what is working for us and keep believing.
