We already know that Virat Kohli has stepped down from the captaincy of Royal Challengers Bangalore. The former Indian captain announced at the end of last season that he will no longer lead the team in IPL 2022. However, the question is, if not Virat Kohli then who?
It was estimated at first that RCB will be buying David Warner or Shreyas Iyer who has had captaincy experience in IPL in the Mega Auction 2022. However, they decided to take a different route altogether and ended up buying Faf du Plessis for a bargain price of 7 crores. It was then that the netizens realised that the former South African captain was a viable captaincy choice as well.
Faf du Plessis was once the captain of the South African national team across all the formats. Under him, the team made great improvements in all formats and his South Africa side is considered to be their golden generation. Although he failed to win any trophies as such with them, he turned them into an absolute beast of a team. The only concern here is that it has been a long time since he has led a team at the highest level.
It was earlier being estimated that Glen Maxwell can also be considered to be a viable captaincy option for Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, RCB has now officially announced that Faf du Plessis will be their new captain and there is not question of any more assumptions now as it is final.
Royal Challengers Bangalore organised a huge Fan summit at Museum Cross Road, Church Street in Bengalore and it was there that they announced their new captain Faf du Plessis. The event is also being streamed live on RCB’s official Instagram page right now.
