Time passes quickly. Less than two years ago, the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal ruled the Indian cricket roster. Famously called the ‘Kulcha’, they were the unputdownable must haves in the shortest format of the game and they agave won us multiple games from tricky situations due to their individual brilliance. But the emergence of other unorthodox spin bowlers like Rahul Chahar and Vraun Chakravarthy has slowly started to sideline these two from the Indian Cricket scenario now; So much so, that although Yuzvendra Chahal is still considered to be one of the top-tier players in the Indian national team, Kuldeep Yadav rarely finds a spot in the squad.
However, things are slowly deteriorating for Yuzi Chahal as well. Him not being selected in India’s squad for the T20 World Cup came as quite of a bummer and marked the beginning of what could possibly be a similar fate as that of his fellow colleague, Kuldeep Yadav. Yuzvendra Chahal has probably realised that himself and although he is pushing for a comeback in the Indian national team, he has started looking for other alternative options as well.
And one of them is the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, 2021. The spinner has announced that he will be playing for the Haryana team in SMAT 2021. This is probably his shot to securing a hefty bad in the Mega-auction of IPL 2021. The retention rules of the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League has been announced and according to it, each franchise can retain only 4 of it’s core team. This makes it questionable as to whether Yuzvendra Chahal will make the cut for RCB’s retention list or not. In case he doesn’t, his performance in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy will be a big deciding factor as to which teams will bid for him.
