South Africa’s star cricketer and first choice wicket-keeper Quinton de Kock will be missing the second and the third test between India and South Africa due to personal reasons. The 29-year old is expecting a baby with his wife Sasha Hurly and he is thus taking a paternal leave due to the same reason. Paternal leaves are being generalised nowadays ever since Virat Kohli did it last year during the India vs Australia series that ended in the visitors registering a historic win over the Aussies.
It was already confirmed by the player himself that he was going to miss out on the third test but a commentator during the day 3 of the first test confirmed that he is indeed out for the rest of the series and will be departing for his home soon after the first test gets over.
Quinton de Kock was decent in South Africa’s first innings of the 1st test between them and India. He took South Africa out of a tricky situation when they were 64/4 and scored a quickfire 34 runs to shift the momentum a bit. The second test will be played from January 3 to 7 and the third test will be played from 11th to 15th January.
Kyle Verreynne and Ryan Rickelton are the only two remaining Wicket-keepers in South Africa’s squad and none of them have much experience. Verreynne has played just 2 test matches while Rickleton is yet to make his international debut.
