Former Indian batsmen VVS Laxman will join the National Cricket Academy on December 13 in Bengaluru. The decision to appoint Laxman along with former Australian and England bowling coach Troy Cooley as the bowling coach was finalized during the Annual General Meeting in Kolkata.

Laxman will replace his former Indian teammate Rahul Dravid who is currently the head coach of Team India. Currently, Laxman is a part of the commentary panel of the ongoing IND-NZ series.
“Laxman’s contract has been signed already. His last media assignment is the second Test between New Zealand and India. He will be joining Bengaluru from December 13. He is also for a certain period be in the West Indies for the the U-19 ICC World Cup,” a senior BCCI office-bearer told PTI after the meeting.
The official added that either of Hrishikesh Kanitkar or Sitanshu Kotak, who are NCA coaches at the moment, will don the head coach’s hat for the U-19 global event.

“We have also finalised all the NCA coaching appointments and it has been minuted,” he said.
BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and secretary Jay Shah have been invited by CSA for the Annual Nelson Mandela Dinner which is scheduled to take place on January 2. However, it is still not confirmed yet that the two will travel to the Rainbow Nation despite the emergence of a new mutated version of Covid-19 named ‘Omicron’.
Currently India A are in South Africa to play three unofficial tests. The senior Indian team are scheduled to travel to the Rainbow Nation later this month to play three T20Is, three ODIs and four tests. The series will kick off from December 26 along with the Boxing Day test match.
Some of the India A player will stay back in the African country and join the senior team.
“Most of them will come back after the third A Test but maybe a couple will be selected in the main squad and a few who will be net bowlers,” the official said.
