Indian Openers Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal did not take the field on Day 3 after Team India declared their innings on Sunday.

The BCCI provided an update on the duo’s injury. The Board said that both the openers are injured and they will not turn up for fielding as a precautionary measure.

Shubman Gill injured his finger while fielding on Day 2. Earlier Gill also got injured his right elbow when the ball hit him hard.

Mayank Agarwal on the other hand sustained a huge blow on his right forearm while batting in the third innings.

The BCCI confirmed the news through their official twitter handle.

“UPDATE – Mayank Agarwal got hit on his right forearm while batting in the second innings. He has been advised not to take the field as a precautionary measure. Shubman Gill got a cut on his right middle finger while fielding yesterday. He will not be taking the field today,” the tweet read.

Due to his injury, Shubman Gill did not come to bat on Day 2. Gill came out to bat at No.3 and scored 47 runs off 75 deliveries which comprised of 4 fours and a six.

Mayank on the other hand, scored his fourth test ten. He scored 150 runs in the first innings. He later smashed 62 runs while coming out to bat in India’s second innings.

Team India put up a score of 276 runs at the cost of 7 wickets before declaring on Day 3. Team India imposed a target of 540 runs. Ajaz Patel took four wickets in the second innings.

New Zealand have scored 140 runs at the cost of five wickets at stumps on Day 3. India require five more wickets with two days remaining while the Kiwis have a big task ahead.
