Team India’s newly appointed limited overs skipper Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the three match test series against South Africa due to a hamstring injury he sustained during the team’s training ahead of the departure to the Rainbow Nation.
However, there’s a possibility that Rohit Sharma might miss the ODI series as well. The 34-year-old is currently at the NCA and has not recovered yet.
If reports are to be believed, it might take some more time for the 34-year-old to be fully fit again. Therefore, India’s red ball vice-captain KL Rahul is likely to lead team India in the ODI series.
“Rohit Sharma is not fully fit, and it would not be feasible to send him to South Africa with the squad for the ODI series if he does not recover in time. In case of new ODI skipper’s absence, KL Rahul will be given the charge of captaincy,” a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source told Sports Tak on Monday.
Rohit is currently in the NCA in Bengaluru where he is recovering from his injury. It might take him atleast four to six weeks to be fully fit.
The limited overs series against South Africa is scheduled to start from Jan 19.
Meanwhile, team India are yet to announce their squad for the ODI series.
