Left hand batsmen Devon Conway was ruled out of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2021 after breaking his hand in the semi-finals of the tournament against England. Conway injured himself by hitting his hand in his willow out of frustration after being dismissed by Liam Livingstone during the run chase.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead on Sunday said that the absence of Conway provides an opportunity for Mitchell to show what he has in his arsenal.
“It’s a shame for Devon to miss out on the first series of the new World Test Championship cycle, but it also offers up an opportunity for someone else,” coach Gary Stead said.
“Daryl’s versatility means he can cover a lot of batting positions and he’s certainly got plenty of confidence at the moment.
