In the 66th match, Between KKR and LSG, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) became the second team to qualify for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 play-offs. They defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) by two runs in a final over thriller at the DY Patil Stadium on Wednesday.
LSG skipper KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first.
But they just destroyed the entire KKR bowler lineup. Not even a single bowler got any wickets. And Lucknow piled a gigantic 210/0 on the board.
Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul got off to a solid start. The pair remained unbeaten till the 20th over as De Kock slammed 140*(70). Rahul scored 68*(51).
To chase targets like 200+, a team needs to have a good start. But, KKR got the worst possible start. Mohsin Khan packed openers Venkatesh Iyer and Abhishek Tomar inside the powerplay overs.
However, Nitish Rana and Shreyas Iyer partnered and kept KKR alive in the game. Rana’s innings came to end on 42(22), while Iyer chipped in with a 29-ball 50.
After that, Sam Billings was also stumped on 36(24) and big man Andre Russell 5(11) fell to deliver a good performance again.
However, Rinku Singh ensured KKR was still awake and got energy in the hunt. As he combined with Sunil Narine to drag the match in the final over bowled by Marcus Stoinins. It took a one-handed beauty by Evin Lewis as Rinku’s cameo came to an end on 40(15). With three required in the final ball, Stonis cleaned up Umesh Yadav as KKR fell short by two runs in the end.
