Team India’s top order saw a massive collapse on the penultimate day of the first of the two match test series against New Zealand at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.
Ajinkya Rahane and co went from 32/1 to 51/5 in no time. They lost wickets in quick succession as the momentum quickly shifted towards the Kiwis.
A lot was expected when Team India came out to bat in the 2nd innings. Axar Patel’s fifer inspired the hosts as they restricted the tourists within 296 runs in the 1st innings. India got a lead of 63 runs before coming out to bat on Day 4.
However, Pujara was the first one to depart on the penultimate day of the test. Pujara hasn’t been in great form lately. He has not scored century in the longest format of the game since February 2019. He scored 22 off 33 deliveries before departing in the 12th over. Cheteshwar Pujara has an average of 27.65 since 2020. His last Test century came way back in January 2019.
India’s stand in captain arrived in the crease in the hope of putting a big total on the board. Ajax Patel trapped the premier batsmen in front of the stumps. Rahane failed to put up a double-digit score as he only scored 4 runs. With this innings his dreadful form with the bat continues. Rahane also failed to deliver in the first innings of the game having score 35 on home soil.
After Rahane’s multiple failures with the bat, many are expecting that Rahane might make way for Virat Kohli in the second test at Mumbai.
Since 2020, Rahane has scored runs at an average of 24.39 with the bat. In 16 Tests, he only has one century to his name-the historic ton at MCG and 2 fifties.
The Indian fans were very much disappointed with both Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane after they did not manage to score runs. Netizens went furious over twitter.
