Umpire’s Cat-like reflex saves him from being hit by Fakhar’s shot

Pakistan are currently squaring off against Australia in the Semi-finals of the 2021 T20 World Cup and boy are they in some form. After a spellbinding batting display by the Paks, they are continuing the same momentum in bowling as well. Shaheen Afridi picked up the big wicket of Australian captain Aaron Finch in the very first over with a peach delivery.

However, we will be focusing on a particular incident that occurred during Pakistan’s first innings in this article. In the fourth delivery of the 17th over, Mitchell Starc bowled a good length one off Fakhar Zaman but it was beautifully read by the batsman. He converted it into a straight shot that missed the umpire by whiskers and went for a four. However, had it not been for the sharp reflexes of the Umpire, he could have been brutally injured.

The shot was coming directly in Umpire Chris Gaffaney’s direction and he used his cat-like reflexes to duck it. It could have been fatal otherwise. The fielders and Fakhar Zaman himself checked whether he was alright after that.

Pakistan went on to put up a humongous total of 176 in their 20 overs which will be very hard to chase by Australia given the state they are currently in. Pakistan probably have the best bowling unit in the tournament and they will take all it takes to stop the Aussies.

As it now stands, Australia have score 50/1 in just 5 overs and they are slowly regaining form. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh have started hitting big shots and if it goes on for 3-4 more overs, Pakistan will be under big pressure.
