Mumbai Indians shocked everyone a few months ago when they bought South African youngster Dewald Brevis at a price of 3 Crores. He is just 18 years old and he recently appeared in South Africa’s team for the 2022 U-19 Cricket World Cup which was played at the West Indies thus everyone was surprised when MI bought such a young talent for such a high price. However little did people know that Dewald Brevis is actually a child prodigy and many consider him to be the next-gen AB de Villiers. In fact, he has gotten his nickname ‘Baby AB’ for the exact same reason. And he proved his mettle in today’s match between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Hewas simply unstoppable in today’s match and particularly his rock solid display against Punjab’s ace bowler Rahul Chahar will be remembered for days to come.
Punjab Kings were sent to bat first by Mumbai Indians who won the toss and they set a very massive target of 199 runs. Thus the need of the hour for Mumbai Indians batters was that they needed to hit big shots right from the beginning and that is exactly what they did. Coming on to chase the high total, Mumbai Indians might not have gotten an ideal start after the early departure of Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma but the performance of South African young gun Dewald Brevis and Mumbai Indians’ find of the season Tilak Verma brought Mumbai back into the game. In fact, the position that they are currently in is a winning one and Mumbai should win the match from here pretty easily. MI need about 77 runs in 8 overs to win their first match of IPL 2022.
Talking about the knock of Dewald Brevis, he played a fabulous knock of 49 off 25 before giving up his wicket rather cheaply. However what is being talked about the most is his 4 consecutive sixes against Rahul Chahar. It was just fascinating to see an 18 year old hitting Rahul Chahar so aggressively and he definitely has a big future ahead.
