The most unfortunate thing happened today for Royal Challengers Bangalore bowler Harshal Patel when he faced Suryakumar Yadav in the middle overs of the ongoing IPL 2022 match between RCB and MI. It was a very unlucky Umpire’s call decision that cost them the important wicket of Suryakumar Yadav and the batsman then went on to play a brilliant knock of 68 off 37. Had it been given out by the Umpire, the scenario of today’s match could have been completely different and thus RCB fans are criticising the umpiring of today’s match all over social media.
So what exactly happened? Well, Harshal Patel bowled a terrific delivery while facing Suryakumar Yadav and it had perfect line and length. However, Sky was too deeply placed within the crease and he mistimed his attempted shot but he got so low while trying to play the shot that the ball hit his chest. There was no reaction from the teammates or the Umpire but Harshal Patel went for a review immediately as he was certain that it was an LBW.
Turns out that he was not wrong as it was hitting the wickets but the TV Umpire gave it as an Umpire’s call and thus Suryakumar Yadav was Not Out. This was extremely unfortunate as RCB could otherwise have
Mumbai Indians were thus able to score a first innings total of 151/6 and it can be considered to be a defendable total at MCA Stadium. However we have seen in IPL 2022 that the team that bats last is usually the one to win the matches and given the fact that Mumbai Indians are yet to win a match in the Indian Premier League 2022 so far, it is only logical to predict that RCB are the favourites to win the match from here.
