The ongoing 5th test match between India and England that is being played at the Edgbaston Cricket ground is historic in many possible ways. It will not only mark a historic series win for Team India on England’s home turd (if India manages to draw or Win the final Test), but it is also the first time that an Indian fast bowler has been made the Captain of the Indian Test Team – yes we are talking about none other than Jasprit Bumrah.
The Indian ace fast bowler has been given the responsibility of leading the team in this important match in the absence of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul who are the permanent captain and vice captain of the Indian Test team currently. However, both of them missed out on this series due to unexpected injuries and thus Jasprit Bumrah has been given the responsibility.
This is a very special occasion for Indian cricket as never before has a fast bowler captained the test team in the nation. However, former England legend Mark Butcher took a dig at this at the Indian Cricket scenario during the toss of the 5th test and it was then that he was met with a sensational reply by the Indian captain Japsrit Bumrah.
Here is the conversation between the two:
Butcher: “Congratulations! Not often do we have fast bowlers as captains but fast bowlers as captains of India has never happened before”
Bumrah: “Well, it has happened before, Kapil Dev was the captain”
Bumrah: “Alright, all-rounder if you say so”
