VIDEO: “If you have half knowledge, then keep your mouth shut”, Rishabh Pant gets involved in a heated verbal argument with Van Der Dussen

Rishabh Pant and Van Der Dussen

On Day 3 of the second test at Wanderers, Indian wicketkeeper batsmen Rishabh Pant engaged in a verbal argument with Rassie Van Der Dussen when the 24-year-old came out to bat in team India’s second innings.

Earlier on Day 2, Van Der Dussen was dismissed off Shardul Thakur bowling. Van Der Dussen nicked the in-swinging delivery which was caught by Rishabh Pant. Van Der Dussen did not wait for the TV Umpire’s confirmation and walked off immediately. Multiple replays from different angles showed contradicting results. The front angle showed that the ball dipped just in front of Pant’s gloves while the side angle showed that it landed directly into his gloves. As Van Der Dussen walked off there was no way that the decision could have been reversed. KL Rahul was dismissed in a similar way in the final session of Day 2.

Since the matches are being played behind closed doors, the stump mic is able to record every single word the players are uttering.

One such incident took place in the 38th over of team India’s 2nd innings. As soon as Pant came into the crease, Van Der Dussen who was standing at short leg started talking about his controversial dismiss which took place on Day 2. The 24-year-old replied to it by saying, “If you have half knowledge, then keep your mouth shut”.

But it seemed like Van Der Dussen got into his mind as he threw his wicket in the third ball of that over by playing a loose shot. Pant looked disappointed after going after that unnecessary attempt. Head Coach Rahul Dravid too looked disappointed with his shot selection.

Team India were bundled out for 266 runs in the second innings of the game. Hanuma Vihari remained unbeaten scoring 40 runs. Team India have set up a target of 240 runs in front of the Proteas.
