IPL 2022, LSG take on KKR for the 53rd match of the ongoing IPL season. LSG, who are second in the points table, are on their way to the playoffs. KKR won the toss and decided to bowl first. Inviting LSG to bat first, a very rare incident happened in the very first over of the match.
LSG skipper, KL Rahul who was in an impressive form had to walk back to the pavilion for a diamond duck i.e 0 off 0 balls.
Rahul who aggregated more than 450 runs in the ongoing season departed without facing a single ball which in cricket terms is known as diamond duck. Tim Southee bowled a full length delivery to Quinton de Kock who played it towards the cover and wanted to take a single. After seeing Shreyas Iyer coming in for the ball he refused which resulted in miscommunication as Rahul was half way down the track. He then tried to get back but failed short of the crease and the replay also confirmed Rahul was out.
It’s hard for a team to lose their prime batsman in such an unfortunate manner though they managed to put a good score of 175 on the board with the help of Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda. Stoinis also played an effective knock at the end to bring the score to 175/6.
