Video: MS Dhoni drops Venkatesh Iyer twice

When it comes to pressure situations, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is undoubtedly one of the go-to options for any team he plays for – be it at the national level or in the Indian Premier League. We rarely witness him making some fumbles in the match while wicket keeping and he is widely regarded as one of the best Wicket keepers in not only the current era but in the entire history of Cricket. However, he made some big blunders in the ongoing final between Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders that can cost his team the IPL trophy if things go in KKR’s favour.

Chennai Super Kings did extremely well in the first innings with the bat. Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bowl first. Despite struggling to chase a low total in the Qualifier 2 against Delhi Capitals, it is needless to say that overall, Kolkata Knight Riders have been more comfortable while chasing and that was what they chose to do in the final of the tournament as well. Brilliant knocks by Faf Du Plessis and Moeen Ali helped CSK to take their total past the 190 mark and achieve a respectable total in the final.

However, KKR have a name for chasing high totals in the finals and they can repeat it tonight as well. With the kind of start that they got in the second innings, it will be foolish to write them off.

And this is where the errors by MS Dhoni come into place. Mahendra Singh Dhoni missed the chance to send off KKR batsman Venkatesh Iyer by missing a catch in the initial moments of the game. Venkatesh Iyer is KKR’s danger man and he might punish MS Dhoni for his mistake. Just a few balls later, Mahi missed yet another catch.
