Kolkata Knight Riders wicket-keeper Sheldon Jackson gave an incredible performance in their first match of the season against Chennai Super Kings and garnered praises from even the Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar himself due his skills from behind the wicket. The Indian Wicket-keeper maintained his good record as Kolkata’s Dinesh Karthik replacement in the wicket-keeping position in this match as well and perhaps his best moment from today’s match was the spectacular catch that got Sherfane Rutherford out.
To begin with, Kolkata Knight Riders put up a very low total of just 128 runs in the first innings of the match and made things too easy for Royal Challengers Bangalore. As a result, despite losing 3 early wickets, RCB were pretty much dominating the match all throughout and Sherfane Rutherford was one of their vital cogs. The 23-year old player scored a scintillating 28 off 40 runs knock and kept the momentum of the RCB innings intact after which Dinesh Karthik came in and won the match for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
However, just when Sherfane Rutherford was starting to look dangerous, KKR wicketkeeper Sheldon Jackson showed his magic. Tim Southee’s lethal delivery got the inside edge of Rutherford’s bat and Sheldon Jackson took a huge dive to the right to take a phenomenal catch.
It was totally one of those cool wicketkeeper catches that we usually see top keepers like Wriddhiman Saha, MS Dhoni, Kumar Sangakkara and Adam Gilchrist take and Sheldon Jackson showed what he is capable of.
Unfortunately, Sheldon Jackson’s performance with the bat was too poor and he departed on a duck today. His team needed a bit more contribution from him at that phase.
