Team India were having a tough time to dismiss the night watchman on Day 5. The men in Blue went wicketless in the first session of the game on the last day. Tom Latham and William Sommerville guided New Zealand to 79/1 at lunch.

However, the team managed to pick up a wicket in the first ball post lunch. The team came out with a plan to trap the player in a short delivery. Umesh Yadav bowled a short delivery and William Sommerville was trapped as he got off to an awkward position to play a pull shot. He top-edged the delivery and the ball flew towards Gill who ran in from fine leg and held on to an excellent diving catch.

Sommerville was dismissed after scoring 36(110) which included five boundaries.
