Upon winning the toss, KKR skipper Eoin Morgan put CSK to bat. Faf Du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad put up a great show and got CSK off to a flying start. The two managed to score 61 runs for the opening wicket before Sunil Narine removed Gaikwad. Robin Uthappa was promoted up the order to bat at No.3. The 35-year-old did not disappoint as he played a 31-run cameo off 15 deliveries at a strike rate of 206.67.

In the 9th over of the game while batting on 27 runs, Shubman Gill skied a ball off Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery. Gill went for a big slog across the line, the ball gripped just a touch and Gill miscued the delivery. It looked like Rayudu lost the ball in the light but somehow managed to get hold off it. Just when Shubman Gill was making his long walk towards the pavilion, a strange incident happened. The umpires asked Gill to hold on for a moment. The ball seemed to have clipped the spider cam cable so it has been signalled as a dead ball by the umpires. Shubman Gill survived.
