Video: Sri Lanka needed 59 runs in 3 overs to win against AUS – Dasun Shanaka single handedly led them to victory!

What a knock!  Dasun Shanaka snatched the victory from Australia as Sri Lanka scored 59 runs in just 3 overs and Shanaka scored 51 in that.

Australia was currently playing a T20 series against Sri Lanka. The third match of that series was happening at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele, Sri Lanka.

Australia already won the first 2 matches. They were looking forward to whitewash the Sri Lanka side but Dasun Shanaka had different plans.

Australia won the toss and decided to bat first. They got a good start. Opener David Warner scored 39. After that Steven Smith 37(27) and Marcus Stoinis 38(23) helped Aus to put 176 on the board.

In the 2nd innings, Sri Lanka didn’t get the start they wanted. They lost their 1st innings in 25. Pathum Nissanka 27(25) and Charith Asalanka 26(19) tried to make a partnership but they didn’t make it to the end. Sri Lanka lost very crucial wickets while not that many runs were on board. In 108 Sri Lanka lost 6 wickets. In the last 3 overs, Sri Lanka needed 59 runs. Only Dasun Shanaka and Chamika Karunaratne were in the crease.

Dasun Shanaka scored a destructive 54 in just 25 deliveries. And his 51 runs only came in the last 13 deliveries. He smashed 5 fours and 4 sixes.

The Australian bowling lineup failed miserably in front of Dasun. Hazlewood gave away 21 runs in the 18th over. Also

Jhye Richardson 18 runs in the 19th over and Kane Richardson 19 runs in 20th over.

Shanaka shared his statement in the after match interview. He said,”I took a few balls to get in. I read the wicket well, so I didn’t throw my wicket away. Process is always important. They took a brave decision to bat first, it wasn’t the best idea to bat first in these conditions. We should take this momentum in the ODI series moving forward.”
