However, during India’s 1st innings on Day 1, fast bowler Tim Southee was seen having a small chat with on field umpire Nitin Menon. The incident occurred in the 83rd over of the game on the first day when India were at 252/4 with Shreyas Iyer and Ravindra Jadeja in the pitch. The natural sunlight seemed to fade away as the day was about to end.
The on-field umpires paused the game to as the light meters were about to check it there was enough light for the game to continue further. On-field umpire Nitin Menon was concerned about the light while Tim Southee wanted the play to go on as usual. Southee savagely teased Nitin Menon and the umpire smiled back at the joke too. Southee questioned why the umpire had his sunglasses on if the light isn’t adequate. The comment dragged the attention of the umpire as both had a laugh.
