Virat Kohli drops down to 9th place on ICC Test Batsman rankings

Former Indian captain Virat Kohli was slowly getting his form back but it seems like he is suffering from the same problems yet again and there has not been a significant improvement in his performances in all the formats.

Virat performed extremely poorly throughout the series against West Indies across all formats and he did not get even a single good knock. Although he was good in the South Africa series as Kohli has always been good in that nation, but as soon as India returned to their home turf, the former Indian captain has started to suffer with his form again.

After the series against South Africa, there was a major hike in Virat’s ICC Test ranking. For a majority of last year, Rohit Sharma had been above Virat Kohli in Test rankings but that changed after the South Africa series as Kohli rose the ICC ranks to secure the 5th position on the table.

It was a positive sign for him and his fans as he was not only the highest-rated Test batsman of India but it also meant that he was making some serious improvements.

However, after the series against Sri Lanka, the table has changed again. Sri Lanka’s Dimuth Karunaratne scored a sensational century in the second test and thus rose the rankings, overtaking Kohli.

Kohli’s average performance in the series also did not help and as a result, he dropped down 4 places and is now seated on the 9th position of the ranking with 742. Rohit Sharma (6) and Babar Azam (8) are both above him at this point.
