MS Dhoni mocks Ravi Shastri: India have released their 15 man-squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be held in UAE and Oman. Ravichandran Ashwin earned a place in the squad after 4 fours of absence. Axar Patel has been picked up in the squad based on his match winning performances in the Indian Premier League. India have picked up five spinners in their squad. The exclusion of spinning duo-Yuzvendra Chalal and Kuldeep Yadav shocked many.
The pitches in Dubai are known for its large boundaries and dry wickets. Meanwhile star opener Shikhar Dhawan who recently captained India in the Sri Lankan tour has also been left out. However, this isn’t the last surprise BCCI got for the fans.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah declared that former Indian captain MS Dhoni will mentor team India for the upcoming ICC event. Dhoni’s inclusion as a mentor has shocked the fans all across the globe. Dhoni previously led India in the inaugural season of the T20 World Cup. MS Dhoni’s young Indian side won the tournament by beating arch rivals Pakistan in the finale. Indian team went as underdogs but defeated vastly experienced sides such as Australia.
India reached to a total of 188/5 after the completion of 20 overs. It was because of Yuvraj Singh’s valuable 70 runs that India reached to a huge total. The Aussies were unable to chase the total as they fell short of 15 runs. The Aussies scored 173/7 after the completion of 20 overs.
Ravi Shastri who is currently team India’s head coach had written an article on ESPNcricinfo. He said that Australia are the favorites to win the trophy. However, team India proved him wrong and sealed the victory. MS Dhoni read that article and later commented on that in the post-match conference. Dhoni said that he read the column Shastri wrote on ESPNcricinfo and is happy to prove him wrong. In fact, Dhoni said that he is sure that Shastri is happy for the team too.
India haven’t won any ICC trophy since 2013. They were knocked out of the 2016 T20 World Cup semi finals by West Indies which took place in India. India were also bowled out by Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final in England.
India will surely try to bring the trophy home. If India manages to do so, then this will be Virat Kohli’s first ICC trophy as a captain.
India will play their first match against Pakistan on 24 October at the Dubai International Stadium.
